About us

Community Bees supports people experiencing loneliness and isolation by providing hoarding support, meaningful social interaction and hands-on activities.

Community Bees is a small, York based Community Interest Company, providing activities and support for some of York’s most marginalised people.

Community Bees CIC is the brain child of Michaela Shaw. Passionate about tackling loneliness and isolation and giving a voice for people who feel ‘lost’, Michaela’s mantra is ‘to make a difference’ to people who society have otherwise forgotten. Young or old, from all walks of life, Michaela has seen many people struggle. Whether through unemployment, losing a loved one, living alone or because of an illness or condition, she knows that many people don’t know where to turn. Community Bees helps exactly those people.

In a supportive, safe manner, Community Bees walks alongside people offering a regular friendly face, encouraging people to participate and get back to having something to live for. Michaela’s own personal experience, a military wife who has seen far too many men turn to suicide, caring for her own family through dementia, Alzheimer’s and disabilities, and being a CEO for a charity that supported people marginalised in society has given her a unique perspective on providing the right services that really make a difference to a person’s life. Michaela’s hands-on approach, upbeat personality and non-judgemental style makes her the kind of person people relate and open up to.

Michaela firmly believes in face-to-face contact, taking time to be be with people and the power of a chat, purposeful activities and a good laugh. Find out how we support people by reading Our Stories.
